Mastoiditis
The diagnosis of mastoiditis is clinical, based on the presence of retroauricular inflammatory signs, such as intense pain, edema, hyperemia, and bulging of the mastoid region, often accompanied by protrusion of the pinna. Symptoms usually appear after acute otitis media, with persistent fever, otorrhea, and worsening general condition. Otoscopy usually reveals signs of otitis media, such as an opaque, bulging, or perforated tympanic membrane. Palpation of the mastoid region reveals significant pain, an important finding for diagnosis.
