Chancroid (male)
Chancroid is an acute genital bacterial infection caused by Haemophilus ducreyi. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, based on the presence of painful genital ulcers with irregular edges and a necrotic or purulent base, usually accompanied by painful unilateral inguinal lymphadenopathy that may progress to an inguinal bubo with suppuration. The differential diagnosis should include syphilis (which presents with painless ulcers and non-suppurative lymphadenopathy), genital herpes (multiple painful ulcers, usually preceded by vesicles), and lymphogranuloma venereum.
